DID YOU KNOW?

Water is a finite resource?

It takes 700 gallons (2700 liters) of water to make 1 shirt? That's 3 years of drinking water for one person.

Gallons of water is used to treat and dye fabric before it is made into clothing?

1004 gallons are used throughout a lifetime for a pair of jeans?

Global textile Industry uses 6,000,000,000,000 liters of water each year.

It takes more than 5,283 gallons to produce 2.2 pounds of cotton, which roughly equals one t-shirt and a pair of jeans?

Chemicals left in water limit ability to recycle it?

There are 15,000 textile mills in China alone?

2,500,000,000 tons of water is wasted per year?

Why Did We Create This Website?

We are a FIRST Lego League Robotics Team.

We needed to create a solution to a real problem related to water.  When we asked textile industry experts, this is what they told us:

"Changing the way that people think about shopping is the entire goal. By changing the mindset of consumers, we are using our business to inspire and implement solutions to the environmental crisis."  Annie, Patagonia

"One area that can help is raising awareness so that consumers start asking questions."  Joel, MEC

"We need to raise awareness of water usage in the textile industry and create a demand for textiles that are made with efficient use of resources."  Xiaofei, Eileen Fisher

So we made this website to show you how much water is used to make shirts, so that you can be aware and buy shirts from companies who are saving water.
